ONE DAY – TWO EVENTS

On April 12, 2025, we will experience a memorable day of faith and mission, which brings together two major events: the Holy Spirit Day for confirmandees and their godparents, and the Palm Sunday Walk, for teens, young adults and youth ministers and open to all. It is a unique experience of faith and communion, in response to Pope Francis’ call for the Jubilee 2025: to be pilgrims of hope.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Mission Jeunesse MTL is looking for numerous volunteers to ensure the smooth operation of the event! Whether you have experience in organization, hospitality or entertainment, your help will be invaluable.

Mission Jeuness MTL turns towards leaders (community youth ministers, pastoral agents, or representatives) to recommend trustworthy volunteers, alligned the diocesan responsible pastoral ministry to get involved in this project.

 

REGISTRATION OF VOLUNTEERS

Leaders (community youth ministers, pastoral agents, or representatives) recommend and register volunteers, ensuring that they align with the diocesan responsible pastoral ministry. They are also responsible for communicating all relevant information to the volunteers. Communities must obtain parental consent for minor volunteers.

Leaders can register their volunteers by filling out the form or by contacting Mission Jeunesse MTL by e-mail before March 25, 2025.

ROLES AND REQUIREMENTS

Please find below an overview of the different volunteer roles to be filled.
More detailed guidelines will be provided in
the coming days and weeks.

General requirements:

Volunteers must be recommended by a youth minister, pastoral associate or leader of a parish, movement or community, who will ensure that the volunteers are aligned with the responsible pastoral ministry of the Archdiocese of Montreal

General commitment required:

1. Available for the entire duration of volunteer role chosen (schedule to be confirmed)
     – Saint Joseph’s Oratory: 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
     – Palm Saturday Walk: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
     – Palm Saturday celebration: 2 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

2. Attendance at volunteer orientation meetings: –
     – April 7, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. (via Zoom) and
     – April 12, 2025, according to the schedule indicated for the role (to be confirmed).

GENERAL HOSPITALITY (ORATORY)

📍 St. Joseph’s Oratory
(At the different entrances and exits of the Oratory, around the oratory)

ORATORY GENERAL HOSPITALITY TEAM
  • Guiding pilgrims, directing them to information points and managing the flow of traffic. 
  • Requirements: adults aged 18 and over, or teenagers accompanied by adults, good interpersonal skills, knowledge of the premises, sense of service, ability to stand for long periods.  

Please note that the coordinator of the hospitality team may assign volunteers to the entrances of the Oratory, or to the Basilica Hospitalty team, or to the Crypt Hospitality team, according to needs.

    HOLY SPIRIT DAY

    for young confirmandees, and their Godparents

    BASILICA HOSPITALITY TEAM
    • Guiding pilgrims, directing them to information points and managing the flow of traffic. 
    • Requirements: adults aged 18 and over, or teenagers accompanied by adults, good interpersonal skills, knowledge of the premises, sense of service, ability to stand for long periods.  

    Please note that the coordinator of the hospitality team may assign volunteers to the entrances of the Oratory, or to the Basilica Hospitalty team, or to the Crypt Hospitality team, according to needs.

    BASILICA ANIMATION TEAM
    • Motivate the assembly before the start of the walk 
    • EX: MC, WITNESS
    • Requirements: Ability to speak or sing in public, communicative energy, sense of spiritual leadership. 
    BASILICA MUSICAL ANIMATION TEAM (fulfilled)
    • Motivate the assembly before the start of the walk with songs, prayers and interaction. 
    • Requirements: Ability to speak or sing in public, communicative energy, sense of spiritual leadership. 
    BASILICA DECORATING TEAM
    • Visually enhance the Oratory’s gathering spaces. 
    • Put away equipment promptly after the gathering 
    • Requirements: Aesthetic sense, ability to handle scenery, fast and efficient installation and clean up. 
    BASILICA INSTALLATION AND DISMANTLING TEAM
    • Set up and put away the equipment needed  
    • Requirements: Good physical condition, team spirit, logistical efficiency. 
    BASILICA CHECK-IN AND ON SITE REGISTRATION TEAM
    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Warmly welcome catechesis leaders, catechists, PCLs, LPAs, confirmation candidates, their sponsors, and families attending the event.
    • Represent the event with joy and kindness.
    • Be witnesses to the joy of Christ.
    REGISTRATION TABLE
    • Registration is done by parish: Only the community leader (catechesis leader, catechist, PCL, LPA, etc.) completes registration for all registered participants from their parish.
    • After welcoming the parish representative:
      • Verify the parish registration and provide the number of kits corresponding to the number of registered participants.
      • Do not distribute kits individually to participants.
      • If a parish has more participants than originally registered or wishes to register new participants, the leader must go to the on-site registration table.
      • No refunds will be given if a parish registered more participants than those who showed up. The number of kits provided matches the number of registered participants, even if some do not attend.
      • Direct families of registered participants to the welcome team.
    ON-SITE REGISTRATION TABLE
    • On-site registration is also done by parish: Only the community leader (catechesis leader, catechist, PCL, LPA, etc.) may:
      • Add participants to an existing registration.
      • Create a new registration if the parish had not registered beforehand.
    • Warmly welcome parish leaders.
    • Have the parish leader fill out the registration form for additional participants.
    • Collect the $5 fee per additional participant.
    • Update the number of kits to be provided based on the new registrations.
    • No modifications to reduce the number of registrations: Once a registration is completed, it cannot be reduced.
    • Direct families to the welcome team.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • This role is recommended for adult catechists, PCLs, LPAs, etc.
    • Have a welcoming and joyful attitude.
    • Clearly communicate instructions.
    • Be familiar with other coordinators and their teams.
    • Follow the guidelines for responsible pastoral ministry: Responsible Pastoral Ministry | Archdiocese of Montreal.

    YOUTH GATHERING

    For teens, young adults, open to all

    • Energize the assembly before the start of the walk with songs, prayers and interaction. 
    • Requirements: Ability to speak or sing in public, communicative energy, sense of spiritual leadership. 
    CRYPT DECORATING TEAM
    • Visually enhance the Oratory’s gathering spaces. 
    • Put away equipment promptly after the gathering

    CRYPT INSTALLATION AND DISMANTLING TEAM
    • Set up and put away the equipment needed

    LITURGICAL SERVERS TEAM (PILGRIMAGE)
    • Note that the Altar servers team (Cathedral) can also be part of the Pilgrimage liturgical Servers team. 
      • Job description: Assistance to ordained ministers during the pilgrimage, the celebration of the Eucharist 
      • Requirements: 
      • Young people (aged 12-35) 
      • Knowledge of liturgy 
      • Be able to walk and stand for long periods 

            PALM SATURDAY WALK

            PALM DISTRIBUTION TEAM (Queen Mary Road)
            • Hand out palms to participants before the start of the walk. 
            • Requirements: Good organization, speed, ability to interact with a large number of people, availability on Queen Mary Street from 2:30 p.m. during the animation.
            SECURITY TEAM
            • Description: Under the direction of the security team coordinators, volunteer security guards ensure the safety of participants throughout the event, particularly during the walk. 
            • Requirements: 
              • Be at least 21 years old 
              • Be available for the entire duration of the pilgrimage as of the meeting time 
              • Ability to manage crowds and intervene quickly when needed 
              • Collaboration with local authorities (SPVM) and organization team 

            PALM SATURDAY CELEBRATION

            📍 Mary-Queen-of-the-World Cathedral
            (outside and inside the Cathedral)

            HOSPITALITY TEAM CATHEDRAL
            • Guide participants as they arrive, distribute Mass booklets and manage traffic inside the Cathedral. 
            • Requirements: Hospitality, patience, good interpersonal skills. 
            PALM DISTRIBUTION TEAM CATHEDRAL
            • Distribute palms to participants who arrive directly at the Cathedral for the mass.
            • Requirements: Good organization, speed, courteous interaction with participants. 
            MUSICAL ANIMATION TEAM CATHEDRAL (FULFILLED)
            • Job description: Liturgical songs for Lent, joyful and unifying, easy for the congregation to follow. 
            • Requirements: 
              • Young people (teens and young adults) 
              • Bilingual / Multilingual (French and English, other languages welcome) 
              • Experience in liturgical or musical singing 
              • Commitment to rehearsals 
                      PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL CATHEDRAL
                      • Job description: Writing and reading prayers of the faithful according to the theme of the event. 
                      • Requirements: 
                        • Teens (15+) and young adults 
                        • Good enunciation and a clear voice 
                        • Texts representing the diversity of the diocese 
                            GOSPEL ANIMATION TEAM CATHEDRAL (fulfilled)

                            Young people (13-35 years old) will be called to proclaim the Gospel, alternating between French and English, with an emphasis on clarity, commitment and reverence. The official text of the Gospel will be used without modification, preserving its sacredness and accuracy. The words of Jesus will be proclaimed by the Archbishop, in order to maintain the solemnity of His message. It is an active proclamation, not only of the reading, but also a dynamic engagement with the Gospel through gestures and movements to invite the community to a deeper encounter with the Passion.

                            LECTORS TEAM CATHEDRAL
                            • Job description: Read liturgical texts with clarity and conviction. 
                            • Requirements: 
                              • Teens and young adults 
                              • Readings will be available in french and in english. 
                              • Good diction and public speaking skills 
                                  ALTAR SERVER TEAM CATHEDRAL

                                  Note that the PILGRIMAGE Liturgical Servers team can also be part of the Altar servers team at the Cathedral. 

                                  • Job description: Assistance to ordained ministers during the Eucharistic celebration. 
                                        DECORATION TEAM CATHEDRAL
                                        • Set up decorative elements to embellish the Cathedral. 
                                        • Requirements: Aesthetic sense, meticulousness, ability to handle decorative objects. 
                                        INSTALLATION AND DISMANTLING TEAM CATHEDRAL
                                        • Set up and put away equipment before and after the celebration. 
                                        • Requirements: Good physical condition, efficient, practical.

                                        🌿 Palms will be distributed by Mission Jeunesse MTL volunteers on Queen Mary Street, at the exit of Saint Joseph’s Oratory.

                                        PILGRIMAGE OF HOPE (5km)
                                        The itinerary will be confirmed by the SPVM on the day of the event

                                        🌿 Palms will be distributed on the front steps to those who arrive directly at the Cathedral for mass.
